Life Restart: Brian Reed finds his ‘Mojo’

BUT RIGHT NOW., USE THE DETOURS. IN THIS WEEK’S LIFE RESTART, WE FOCUS ON BRIAN REED. HE WAS IN REAL AND THEN CONSTRUCTION WITH A FRIEND AND PARTNER. HE WAS PRETTY HAPPEN TILL HIS PAST ARE IN THE SUDDENLY PASSED AWAY IN 2003 AND THAT IS WHEN EVERYTHING CHANGED. HIS DEATH WAS A BIT OF A WAKEUP CALL TO SAY THE LEAST. AND I HAD TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT I WANTED TO DO. I WAS IN A REAL CROSSROADS. Reporter: HE CONTINUED THE BUSINESS FOR A WHILE. BUT HIS HEART WAS NOT IN T SO HE FINALLY SOLD THE COMPANY. I DID NOT HAVE A PLAN. I DIDN’T REALLY REALIZE HOW TOUGH THAT PART OF IT WOULD BE. I THOUGHT, I CAN ALWAYS GET A JOB. BUT THAT IS NOT ALL THE CASE. Reporter: SO HE GOT BACK INTO COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE. BUT THE TIMING COULD NOT HAVE BEEN WORSE. IT WAS RIGHT BEFORE THE BOTTOM DROPPED OUT IN 2008. HE KEPT WORKING BUT IT WAS A STRUGGLE. AND THEN AN ARTICLE ABOUT FOOT TRUCKS STARTED TO PUSH HIM IN ANOTHER DIRECTION. I READ THE ARTICLE AND IMMEDIATELY FELL IN LOVE WITH THE IDEA. Reporter: HE DECIDED TO STOP IN L.A. ON THE WAY OUT AND CHECK OUT THE FOOD TRUCK SCENE FIRSTHAND. I CAN MAKE THIS WORK. I FELT GOOD ABOUT IT AFTER THAT EXPERIENCE. AND THEN I GOT IN A CAR AND DROVE TO VEGAS AND OPENED MYSELF UP TO BOTH POSSIBILITIES FROM THAT POINT ON A MENTALLY MADE THAT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, IT WAS LIKE EVERYTHING WAS SO POSITIVE FOR THE TRUCK AND SO NEGATIVE FOR REAL ESTATE. Reporter: HE FOUND HIS MOJO AND MADE THE LEAP, OPENING THE FIRST MOJO TRUCK AND NOW THE BUSINESS HAS EXPANDED TO TWO TRUCKS AND A MIN INTO A MOJO NOR CATERING. BUSINESS IS HARD. IF YOU’RE PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU’RE DOING, IT SHOWS. I AM SO HUNGRY LOOKING AT THOSE TO TACOS. I HAD DID YOU HAVE ANY RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE? I WAS EYE LINE COOK IN HIGH SCHOOL OR — A LINE COOK IN HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE. HIS MOM IS ITALIAN, SO HE GREW UP IN THE KITCHEN COOKING. SO IT WAS LIKE A THERAPY FOR HIM. AND FOUND HIS PASSION THAT WAY. COMING UP AT 6:25, BRIAN’S
