On today’s episode I’ll show you how to
take the Cura slicer, it’s per model settings and some infill and create some
really unique designs and if you have a logo you can customize that too.
I’ll show you how I did it on today’s Filament Friday. Filament Friday is

First I’m gonna start off with just a simple cylinder. It’s ten millimeters in
diameter, ten millimeters tall. I’ll leave that there.
Now I’m gonna make two copies of it so I multiply it one on the left one on the
right. I’m gonna take the one on the Left I’m gonna make it a big disc so I make
it 90 millimeters in diameter but I’m only gonna make it five millimeters tall
this way it’s a little shorter than that small one. Now I’ll take the one on the
right I’m gonna make it even bigger make this one a hundred millimeters in
diameter but only three millimeters tall and this will actually be what we print.
The other two will be for the per model settings but I need the center them so I’m
going to select all three, right click Center selected models and now we have
them all in line like a target. So now if I just slice this model there’s
something I want to show you how you can expose the infill and you go to top and
bottom layers and you can actually set it to zero. So I’ll set the top to zero
and the bottom to zero. After I’ve sliced it then I click on preview and now you
can see the infill. There’s no top or bottom you can see right through this
thing. So if I printed it that’s the way it would look. Now I’m going to select
the 90 millimeter disk, go to per model settings and where they overlap and then
uncheck the info only box and click on select settings. Now I’m going to search
for the infill so infill density and I’m gonna select an infill pattern. These are
the two that I’m going to change so then I go back to that disk make sure I’m on
the overlap and I’m going to change, make sure this is unchecked, and I’m gonna
change the pattern to try hexagons and the infill density. Let’s go with 20% so
now that set that area is controlled by those settings. Now let’s pick the real
small one in the center I’m gonna do the same thing infill. Only all I want is
infill density here. But I also want the wal,l number of walls so I’m gonna choose wall line count. What I’m gonna do with this is another trick. Make sure you’re
on this overlap. I’m going to make that infill zero.
That’s gonna make it a hole. That’s a trick to make a hole in any design. The
wall line count, I’m gonna set the one and I’m gonna go back to that 90 millimeters
and I should have done this before, make a wall line count of one as well. So the
reason I’m doing this is because the infill needs a wall to hold it so that’s
why I’m gonna put one wall around it. Now let’s go back to the main settings.
I’m gonna make the overall infill density
80%. I’ve got the top and bottom layers set to zero so when we slice this and
look at preview, look at this here’s the design, totally unique.
It’s got 80% infill on that outer ring the outer part of the hundred
millimeters. The ninety millimeters is the 20% and in the center here as a
hole. It’s a way to put a hole in any design just by saying 0%. I really like
this and here’s how it turned out. It printed really good. Now I did use a one
millimeter nozzle on my Ender 3 and it makes it stronger, a little easier to
print, but now let’s take it a little further. Let’s add three more cylinders
only crunched down so as you see here. Three outside that center hole and I’m
gonna make those a totally different infill again and I’m gonna make it
triangular. So let’s make a 5%, one wall count and do each of them the same way
and then the center is still gonna be the hole and one wall. And the 90
millimeter is the same. Now I do have infill checked here. Sometimes it works
sometimes it didn’t. I don’t know why but on the main design here, I still have the
top and bottom layers of zero and I still have the 80% and triangles so
let’s slice this guy and look at it. And look at this now. I’ve got these added
circles in the center of it gives it a unique look. I just really think it’s
cool how it turned out. And there’s so many different things you can do by
changing the infill. Changing the infill pattern and come up with something
unique. I did mention that I use the one millimeter nozzle so from the center
drop-down I chose one millimeter nozzle. And then it brings in the settings but
I’m gonna change this so accept it now. I’m actually gonna go to a 1 millimeter
profile now. This one’s not ready to release yet I’m still working on it
but it’s a one millimeter profile that I’m gonna use set to 0.8 layer height so
it’s very very rough. And that’s why these prints look a little bit rough. So
you can see right here, Layer height of 0.8. I wouldn’t want to go any bigger
than that with a 1 millimeter but it prints really fast and really strong.
So now let’s slice this and preview it and you’re gonna see that the infill
changes just a little bit. There you go. So that 20% is now bigger so I actually
want to go back and change that. I don’t know why the one millimeter nozzle did
that but I’m gonna change that 30% on the 90 millimeter disc down to 50%. Let’s
go back to preview and I’ll slice it and after it slices that looks much better.
That’s more of what I wanted. More of a contrast between the circles and then
the outer part. And here’s how it looks. This is my
favorite one yet. It just, I don’t know, it’s just got a kind of cool look to it. I
don’t know what I’m gonna do with it but I just love it.
Now I’m gonna do my logo. I just had a flat block that I brought in and then my
CHEP on top of it. The CH EP is what I actually selected and used the settings
on. So I used the wall line count of one. I actually changed the top and bottom
layers to zero right here and then it gets overlapped on my small screen so I
got 20% infill and just lines for the infill. And I unchecked the infill. Only I
really can’t tell you whether you have to do that or not. You’ve got to play with
it and then I’m gonna use the one millimeter. So let’s go down to top and
bottom layerse. I’m gonna leave these solid so I’m not gonna expose the infill
everywhere else. And just leave it at 20% With a Tri-Hexagon and that’s the infill
but you won’t see that anyway because when I slice this you’ll see
that only the letters are exposed because I expose the top and
bottom only with the letters and this looks really good. Now it’s not gonna
look as good with the one millimeter nozzle but I love the way this turned
out. I’m may reprint this with a smaller nozzle but here it is and came out
pretty good for a one millimeter nozzle. The details not too bad but then I
wanted to try something else so I went back and made the infill like 10% on the
letters and then now I’m gonna expose outside the CHEP. So I go back here and
make the top layer and bottom layer zero Then I’ll have a contrast between the
two. Now let’s preview this after slicing
it and you know what, there’s not a big contrast. I’d need to change some
settings here. I think I’ll change the settings on the letters to make it a
little more dense. So let’s go back and make it 40%. Slice it. Look at preview.
That’s better. The CHEP really pops out from the
background So this is another way you can do it. Maybe put a different frame
around it. There are so many things you could do with this. It’s just fun but
here’s the way it turned out. A little extra plastic on this one. I
don’t know why but it’s still pretty cool. I love the way these turned out and
using the one millimeter nozzle makes them nice and strong and they print
really fast. So you can come up with all kinds of designs and print them really
quickly. Who knows what you can do with this. It’s only limited by your
