How to Connect Bank & Credit Cards: QuickBooks Online US Tutorial 2018

Online banking allows you to download transactions directly from your bank and credit card accounts to make entering transactions easier. It also allows you to match the manually entered transactions to those downloaded from the bank and the credit card company to make your reconciliations easier as well. To get started with online banking click on Connect accounts here on the dashboard or click on banking from the nav bar. If you would like to make your connection with your bank or your credit cards, just click on Connect right here. You can also upload transactions manually. But this is normally the only performed if you are only using a bank or a credit card that does not support QuickBooks online. Let’s go ahead and click Connect. Now QuickBooks shows us a couple of popular choices in this bottom area. But you can also click in the Enter Bank Name, or sign in the URL field, and then type in the name of the bank, credit card, or credit union. Once you’ve made your selection, you’re then asked to enter your username and password that you use for online banking. QuickBooks creates a secure connection between QuickBooks and your financial institution. And bear in mind that there may be some other verification steps that happen along the way. In this example, we have both the checking account and also a savings account. So if you have multiple accounts linked to the same bank account or credit card account, you will be able to enter multiple accounts at the same time. Right here, we’re going to enter the account as it exists on our chart of accounts or you can create a new bank account directly from this form. We’ll just select the checking account that we’ve already set up, but right here, we are going to enter a new savings account. This allows me to set up a bank type account on my chart of accounts directly through the window. Here for the detail type though, I’m gonna select something different because this is not cash on hand. Here I’ll select savings and then Save and Close and now Connect. During this step, QuickBooks downloads the last 90 days of transactions and we’re all set. Unlike banking makes entering transactions into QuickBooks online a breeze. [MUSIC]
