6 Golden Rules For Business Card Design (QUICK FIRE TIPS)

in today’s video I have some quickfire
tips for the golden rules in business card design so take some notes and
follow along with my golden rules for business card design today’s video is
made possible by named chief and I use Namecheap to obtain my most recent
domain name Chiba is used by web professionals and bloggers startups and
also entrepreneurs alike you can learn more about Namecheap later in the video
on how to grab domains as low as 88 cents and also shared web hosting for
under $3 a month the first tip is to have a theme or a running theme
throughout your business card design on back and the front
now this theme probably will come from the branding or the logo but you need to
take into account of the color the typeface and also the layouts you need
to tie in together and resemble the message and the theme of the brand so
for example a business card for a fashion company we are utilized typical
colors and typefaces for that specific industry and if you take two business
cards and lay them out one with the front up and one with the back up they
should complement each other and a good way to do this is to use contrasting
colors so on one side maybe have black and the other side have whites but yeah
you should have a running theme throughout the entire business card
design next we have text and liquor sighs and
this is really important because firstly you want people to be able to read the
information on the business card because that’s the point of the whole thing
entirely so do you make sure to test print and then hold the card at certain
distance and check to see if you can read the text properly and also that
goes with the logo design as well there’s no point having a logo on a
business card that looks blurry and after printing so do test print the text
size and the logo size on the final product and speaking of printing the third
golden rule is to make sure your business card is 300ppi and also set to
CMYK color mode for printing this is pretty obvious to most people but some
designers do forget this small detail and it’s really important as well
so the fourth golden rule is to have bleeds on your business card design I
typically use a five millimeter bleed around the entire design and you need to
set this up in Illustrator or whatever you’re using the bleeds are there so the
printer can cut out your business card efficiently and cleanly on multiple
different printouts so do make sure that your artwork does go over the bleed but
moving on to the fifth point today make sure you do have margins so you can keep
all important content within from the edge of the design now again I typically
bring the margins in five millimeters from the actual cutout print edge
having a load or some text right up to the cutout edge does look really tacky
and untidy and lastly today the sick golden rule of a business car design is
hierarchy use hierarchy especially on the text so you can have the important
titles standing out so for example your name and say your profession like art
director or whatever but ya have hierarchy on the business card because
it does draw attention and also it looks more professional and it looks more neat so as I mentioned today’s video was made

  1. Todays video is in a quick fire format, I tried to get as much info into a short space of time for this upload, as I didn't have too much time to work with. Longer content coming this week

  2. I recently got the project of creating business card for someone..
I did lot of research on business cards online… but the tips u shared in this video were not there anywhere online..
These tips are good.. it will help me in future projects
    Thank u..๐Ÿ‘โ˜บ

  3. You R Awesome ,Sir will you create videos for beginners in printing projects if you already have one plz give me its links.

  4. I think the hardest thing about business cards is, that you need to remember that it'snot a flyer and not an ad, but still needs to represent you just like them.
But it's probably one of the best areas to practice good design for starters, since it forces them to get a lot of detail into a minimalist design on a small space.
Being limited is often the best way to figure out solutions.

  5. I think your videos are outstanding, very nice explained and edited….smooth and clean work!๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  6. I don't want to be that guy, but the yellow shaded background is little less appealing, awesome video otherwise.

  7. I have a question about the bleeds. I have no printing experience and I have mostly worked for online designs. The bleed that you told about, you said that my artwork should go over the bleed. So am I supposed to make something like a 1 point line or do I just need to tell the printer about it?

Additionally, can you make a video on online portfolios and the best sites/methods to make those? Many people use Instagram to display their work too, which methods are the best and most accepted? and how to make it look professional?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

  8. At 1:38 you showed a design with some colors i've been interested in using, I just couldn't find the right color blends I wanted. Would you mind telling me those color codes?

  9. bro aapka video bohot achha tha but yaaar me thoda confuse hu ki card me apna logo add kare jese aapne DC dezcorb ka logo add kiya he

  10. Hey! what's in your opinion the smallest font size I can use in a business card that is still readable? Thanks!

  11. Thank You, Tom! Iโ€™m waiting for Your tutorials more than iโ€™ve been waiting for new episode of Game of Thrones! ๐Ÿ™‚ Always good content, never disappointing ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. You have probably forgot also how to send the files for printing , like , which settings to use / not use when saving it as PDF ๐Ÿ™‚
